Good opportunity to upgrade to a Momo. See ebay.

Might want to post a WTB ad in the For Sale/Wanted section linked at the top of the page.

You could have it recovered/do it yourself if you have the patience:

a steering wheel that feels like an "old pair of jeans" - f l ü s s i g m a g a z i n e

You can swap to a later steering wheel from another 944 up to 88 or a Porsche 930 3-spoke wheel is pretty nice, but expensive.

A Grant/Momo/Nardi/LeCarra style wheel is another option, just have to get the matching adapter and the wheel you want. Lots of styles and colors available to suit your desire.

Good luck.

Those four-post "Sport" wheels as pictured in the above post have become my favorite period-correct OEM wheel. They have the smallest diameter (14") of the OEM options for the period, which makes ingress and egress much easier. Some of the 951s equipped with this wheel had an extra spacer behind the wheel to move the wheel closer to the driver.

But I am also partial to the D-shaped 13" Momo wheels, particularly the Corse series. The smaller diameter can be a bit challenging on a non-powered rack, particularly with wider and stickier rubber up front, but on a powered rack, you should have no trouble. The D-shape allows for even better ingress/egress, although some have commented that the D-shape is not a good idea for a track car.

So was this 4 post Sport wheel an option? I have one in brown(brown leather interior) on my 924S and thought it came as standard issue with power steering.

In 1983 the 3 spoke was standard, the 4 spoke, the picture above was optional. The 4 spoke is smaller.

The later 4 spoke will also sit out closer to you about an inch or so which will lift it off of your knees. I used a newer 4 spoke on my '83 and loved it. If I recall, i needed to make modifications to the turn signal cancellation trigger.

You can have the crack welded and the leather restitched or replaced with new.

I have the 3 spoke shield as do you, and after having driven an 86' 951, there's no way I'd change. It would change the car to a lopsided wheel, but it doesn't really matter when you have a PS car, which I can only guess, you don't.
