What would Darth Vader do

H-4"s
I'm thinking of putting H-4's in my 1983 N/A. I used to have them in my 924's ( all 3). Since this is an ealy car, do I need that special relay system? What about HID's and LED conversions? Has anyone here done them and what problems have you had? (Note: I am cross posting this to the FB 944 forum)

Here's a review on GE's LED replacement bulb/light for round headlight cars and trucks:
GE Nighthawk headlights: Grassroots Motorsports forum: Grassroots Motorsports Basically, other than icing issues, I don't see why you would bother with anything else, IMO. HIDs are annoying as heck since the retrofits don't allow you to "dip" them to avoid blinding people and you will blind people. E-code housings are expensive, but can work and you'll want better bulbs and a relay kit to ensure the lights get enough power and at the end you'll have spent as much as the LEDs.

Wow, those LEDs are impressive!
I have H4's, used 'em in my old 924 and now are in the 931. If you run the stock wattages (55/65), you won't need a relay kit (with the old headlight switch, power run through the switch). That said, better power supply from the relay and better grounding will improve the output, even at stock wattages, in my experience. So I find that adequate in my 931, since I only really drive it around town, not much backroading at night. In the 924, however, I did commute through the backwoods, and ran 80/100W bulbs, and did need relays - that much power will melt out the headlight switch in a hurry.
