engine/driv line swaps

Hi,

just picked up the 924 and am wondering if anyone knows what other engines will bolt right in if I can not get the one in the car running.

I'm talking about other years of Porsche/VW/Audi/BMW's that would fit and bolt in. (No adaptors or cuting). Just an old fashion R&R.

The reason I ask is there are not a lot of P cars around here, but there are newer Audi/Passat's that can donate their drive lines if needed.

you may be out of luck if you want something to bolt right in. i dont really know, but you would need to change a few things at the very least to get another type of motor in. i would think it wouldnt be to hard to put a 944 drivetrain in, or a smallblock chevy...i just saw a 944 with an huge blower sticking out of the hood the other day

I think these motors were in some of the little US Mail jeeps, Rambler Pacers (or one of those AMC), VW trucks.

I've read that there are problems with the AMC swap and phoned Renegade about the chev V8. They don't make it anymore. Some sort of problems......they didn't say what.

GWN,

There might be differences in some of the stuff with motors that I mentioned, flywheel, front pulleys, ignition, & injection.

If I were you I would check out why it won't run. Check to make sure plugs are fireing & injection is spraying the gas. The CIS has some aggraving stuff to get it cranked. If you get fire try some ether to get it cranked, no crank, make sure ign distributor & cam is in time. These are pretty tough old motors. The worst thing as far as wear is the cam & lifters.

I'm working on it first........ It's not getting fuel, fuel pump works if given 12V direct, but not when in the loop. Thinking it might be the fuel pump relay (testing it next), if not that, checking wiring next. PO had tryed to start it with either. He said it ran, but very ruff.

The reason I asked about swaps is there is a head gasket & a timing belt in the back. PO said they were there when he bought the car. don't know the history of previous repair. So I thought if it need a swap, I'd have th info and know what to look for.

Other things:
Timing belt cover is missing and at some point body work was done to the front. Looks like both fenders & front valance were bondoed together. Rust in drivers fender near top by drivers door. Seats need recover/skins. Other than that it's in not bad shape, cept it sat under trees for the last 2 yrs & is almost black (red car) from sap.
