shift knob boot
any shortcut tricks on putting on a new leather shift knob boot and insert for 1983 944?
|
I don't remember the size, but I was able to use a hole saw like you use on a drill. It was slightly smaller than the hole for the insert and I was able to use the teeth on the saw to grab the leather and push it in further by using the BFH (big effen hammer) to push the hole saw further into the recessed area for the insert.
The insert is easy to break removing. Be careful and you may get lucky like I did. I was doing this on a late series, but I imagine the issues are similar. Good luck. |
I've warmed up the leather with a hair dryer first. It lets it stretch a little more.

I suggest sitting down in front of a good movie or sporting event and just start pulling and stretching.
