Hey man, Maximas are pretty quick. The last generation had 190hp, and with a 5 speed manual could do about 7 sec flat 0-60 easy. The newer ones have 222hp and can do under 7. And let's not even talk about the new 260hp 6 speed manual. Which Maxima does he have? Because I read a review for a N/A 944 from back in 1986 and they said it'll do a 8.3 sec 0-60 with the 5 speed and a 9.8 with the auto-- if you have a manual and he has an auto or if he's a bad driver, you'll be able to keep up with him, but if he's got a manual and is a good driver he'll be able to beat you.

oh yeah, I forgot, they also quoted a top speed of 131 mph. So at least he's wrong about one thing.

So here's my solution: Go borrow someone's red 951 and THEN race him. Yeah it really bothers me when kids get expensive cars...it happens all the time in my neighborhood, because we live in a pretty nice one. Its just my parents aren't crazy and honestly I don't really deserve an expensive car. I have a 93 Accord right now and I'm damn happy about it, but if I do well in college my parents will probably give me aournd $15k to buy a car. Can you say 951?

I can't figure out how to send a url, but there's a 944 web-ring with a page call 'The Porsche 944 Garage Home Page' by Clark Fletcher. He has a break down of factory performance numbers on the 944's in his 'technical information' section, but not for some of the models including most NA 8v's. I've heard it quoted in the past as 0-60 in the low 8's and top speed 137.

If an N/A will do 137, I'd guess it would take about a half anhour to get there. No disrespect to the N/As, its just that its hard to believe that it would top out at much over 120 with its 147 hp and 3000+ test weight.

A 944 NA 8v euro (163 hp) will do 220 km/h ~137 mph top speed and 0-100 km/h in 8.5s.

also..or shall i say further more wieght for the 944 is 2600 lbs and lets be conservative and say that i get 160hp outta my car with the exhuast and cone filter...is my car just faster or what? People ive spoken too say that sometimes 944s can be faster than what the stock numbers are...so who knows I just wish i had a gtech pro

I can vouch for that!! I was riding shotgun in my mates '83 944 one day when we had an impromptu race against a mitsi GTO (u guys call them V3000? 3Li V6 n/a or tt versions) we were doing 210kph with sum revs to go b4 redline b4 we had to brake for the intersection at the end of the motorway. He was starting to pull away when we got over 200 :/

I see a lot of overblown (read: b.s.) claims about the top speeds achieved in the n/a. I do however agree that its top speed is basically underestimated. My top speed was 123 without a single mod, and I think I could have easily gotten to at least 135. I've since added a K&N, and it definitely has a little more pull now.

You can call it BS if you want, since I truely have nothing to prove to anyone but I have had an early 85 NA AUTO up to 148 or so with a tiny bit more room. This is on a straight away, not down hill but not uphill either. My car is 100% stock with the exception of Bosch platinum plugs and a pair of 928S4 wheels.....

Oh i forgot to mention that i have no cat, just a straight pipe in it's place.... although I am told this does not make much if any diference in a NA.

Diablo what makes ya think I cant hit that speed exactly ? There are other people on this board with NA's that have hit in and around where I was. Recess is out and it's somewhere in the high 140s for me ...
