Engine swap, 85 engine in 86 car
Hi from Norway
![]() I am sure the topic of fitting a generation 1 engine in a generation 2 car is discussed before, but I was not able to find it. Sorry if I am asking questions that have already been answered. I am about to replace a broken 2.5NA engine in my -86 car with a -85 engine (first generation). European version. The engine is complete with all electrical wiring intact, and I intended to use this. As a novice in this kind of work am I running into problems all the time, one of them is the electrical..... At my replacement engine is there is one harness(?) containing four wires (brown, black, yellow and yellow/black) separating from the main harness at the DME plug that is cut. At my original wiring harness is there two two separate wires leaving the DME plug (brown and brown/white). Does anyone know what these are for, and how to proceed? EDIT: it's a 944 2.5NA Thanks Magne Last edited by Magne; 03-06-2014 at 02:31 AM.. |

Hi
I am in the process of doing exactly the opposite to you, ie an 88 engine into an 86 car and have found several parts slightly different , eg dipstick, inlet manifold , so I swapped them around so that I could use my original '86 loom.

Use the wires that came on the car, not the engine, and you won't have to mess with anything. Engine will bolt in.
