968 head on an S2?

Will the 968 head work on the S2 engine? if so can the stock 944S2 cam chain tensioner be used in place of the Vari-Cam unit? thanx

My S2 came with a 968 head, not sure about the tensioner aspect though.

The variocam is not connected.

Cheers

That thread you linked has lots of incorrect information.

The 968 head I'll definitely work on the s2 engine. What I don't know is if the s2 cams will work on the 968 head with the s2 tensioner. The sprockets are different between the two, but as long as the complete s2 cam and chain assembly is used (and tensioner), it *shoud* work. Note that the s2 tensioner is held by 2 bolts and the 68 by 3 bolts. I would imagine that the third hole would simply be redundant in the case of using th s2 tensioner.

You will also need to check intake valve clearance to piston crowd as the 68 intake valves are bigger. This may mean fly cutting the valve reliefs in the piston to maintain clearance.

I would post this on RL or search RL because I know it has been done before with a complete 968 head.

I decided to put it on Ebay rather then mess with the tensioner and cams issue.
