Fuel rail 84 n/a

Has anyone had any success at rebrazing/fixing a leaky fuel rail?

Mine is leaking at the rear elbow, towards the firewall. A replacement part will be upwards of $350 once we determine if it's the new or old style.

My mechanic hasn't been able to put it on the lift to get the engine number yet, to determine the exact part number.

I work in the worlds largest machine shop, and am confident I could get I could get it repaired if it is feasible.

I have confidence in you. Fuel rail is just a G.D. tube that gets gas from point A to pt. B. I would advise trying a non flammable route first.

J.B. Weld. A screw. A self taping screw with silicon or RTV or something around it. Duct tape (you'd be suprised). Electrical tape. Hose clamp and a piece of old innertube. Silly Putty&REG. No, not really. Use your imagination.

or go to a junk-yard. We were thinking of buying one off of a 944, and I think it was like $35, it was in pretty good shape too. We didn't really need it though...

hey,
You can temporarily fix your fuel rail by using J.B. weld. But, since J.B. weld is suscepitble to gasoline based catalysts you would either have to do it every month or so, or buy one soon. Just for note, I had the same problem a month ago with my 84 and before I used J.B. weld, I had my friend (a porsche shop owner) weld it for me. The weld was nice and even, but it actually leaked more than before, so I went out and ordered the 3 pipe style rail and used the weld stuff just so I could drive it for a few days until I got it. Well just as luck would have it, when I was driving in rainy weather getting my way around toward my home(going the 25 mph speed limit of course...seriously) , the few winding roads before my house the rear end slipped out and I caught a pole on the drivers side . The fender/ door are impialed, and the car is now a total loss . I blame myself and a super stiff suspension for my mishappenings, but moreover I feel sorry because I lost a nice car I put a lot of money into. Just for some closure I'll list SOME of the things I've done, so I can atleast say I had a nice car.
tech rims w/yoko avs sports
bilsteins all around
welmeister sway bars
super thick powdercoated sway bars(my friend gave them to me off a wrecked race car, i think there're bad luck now)
I adjusted the torsion bars
new motor mounts
rebuilt head w/930 valve guides, teflon seals
new lifters
a pretty big cam(.472 in. lift, 268 deg. roation)
water pump
belts
tensioners
lines/hoses
new seals throughout the motor
rod bearings
speakers
head unit
wheel bearings
injectors
and a lot of stupid things like msd, wires, coil, kn, turbo rad., hoses, clamps........all this I did last winter, Ohh, and a clutch too!
sorry, if I inconvenienced everyone with this post, but it's been hard to get over a car I've put money and memories into since I was nine. I just hope getting this off my chest makes me feel better. And I 'll post pics of before/after the wreck when the insurance company gives it back to me.

Robert, I have a friend that probably has a used one he will sell. Let me know and i will ask him how much $ he wants for it.

Wannaberacer, Man that sucks!! I really feel for you! Since you were 9..........damn =( I have a buddy that has a maroon '88 944 with a blown engine i might be able to hook you up with for +/- $1500. It is an auto but that wouldn't matter cause you can swap your whole drivetrain.......Hell, i'll even help you. That is the price he gave me a year or so ago when i inquired about purchasing it. I was gonna make an automatic Turbo with it.........that would make a pretty damn fun commuter car huh!

Or you can use this as a chance to upgrade! I have a really nice '88turbo I can hook you up with for $9k!!

My mechanic already ordered a new rail. Turns out my car was a late '84 and the engine is the newer version (I have no clue as to what the difference is), and needed the newer rail.

He also determined the correct high beam switch. Apparently there were 6 different switch combinations during that model year for that switch, and now I'm stuck with an incorrect one (@$78, non-returnable). I'll post it to the classified seciton once I pull the part number.

Thanks for the advise anyways.
