Porsche Crest info needed re: tranny swap for a 44

hmmmm well ok here it is... as a couple of you know, ive been kinda workin on a 44 project with radical modifications... ...so far its coming along kinda slow but very smooth... been talkin to some guys from all over who have porsche experiance and knowledge... in the last issue of "excellence" magazine i read, i saw a boxter i think it was, designed for this woman named "gelly" and done by ruff over in europe... now the neat thing was they converted the tranny from a standard 6 speed to a tiptronic styled transmission/shifter... an included the shift buttons into the steering wheel as well... thought it would make a cool enhancment for the project im working on... great for a daily driver anyhow...
ok so heres the problem...i seem to have problems finding out how the best way to do this kinda thing for myself or with a local shop seeing as im not rich like the lady "gelly'...heh...but im looking for ideas or tips or any info really on how best i could go about this idea to make it possible. where could i look for a tranny like this...can it be adapted from another company's product...or should i stay/go with strictly the existing kind from the models it was optioned on...
anyhow im hoping some of u guys from pelican can help me out or even anyone who may have ideas in general... anyhow thanx and hope to hear something soon ciao

They made the tiptronic for the 968 in 93. I don't believe they had the shifters on the steering wheel, but researching that tranny (instead of a Boxster one) would be a good place to start.
I'm sure the steering wheel buttons can be retro-fitted to your setup.

I do know that with the manual trannies, converting a 944 to a 968 tranny involves more than just swapping out the trannies: the flywheel & engine management computer is set up differently on the two cars. Not sure if the same is true with the automatic 944 vs. tip-968.

Hope this helps!

thanx for the advice man ill check that out.. ...if you think of anything else please let me know... ...ima send an email over tot he other side of the waters there and ask them a few questions as well... ...i kinda thought maybe the swap wouldnt be all that easy, and that the switch would require some form of new harnassing or brain chip modifications/switchs... ...i dunno i just hope that it wont be too extensive to make it not viable... ...already its a idea that is definetly not practical...or rather not in the design/building/modifying stage other than in the exercise in itself...but i think in the long run, once its done, if its possible...i think it will be a unique and nice little addition to the 44...even porsche says the tip tranny is an fun little mod for there cars, so i think the adaptation will be great. anyhow, ill let u know my progress on it an hmmm who knows... ...if it comes off succesful more people might wanna try the adaptation...hehe ok maybe not :P but hey...the use to say we would never fly either... ...thanx again man...ciao
