flash, confirm that this mod retains the original shape and feel of the OEM shifter. In fact, I also installed Kyle's rubber-bushingless shift link and short shifter plus a slightly elevated cassette box/armrest, so now the shifting process is pretty much text book cup-of hand, as you've described.
For me, though, the 94-97 Miata's short shifter is still one of the slick-shift leaders of all time, sharing honors with some motorcycle gear shifts and Hewland Mk 9 racing boxes. Not including paddle shifters and other servo-assisted systems since for me that would be apples to oranges
This 944 unit is not up there with the best if them, to be honest, but it's definitely in the ball park.

I also lowered the heck out of my brake pedal and will put a plate on the accelerator to even them out for optimum heel-toeing, and when that's sorted I'll add to this commentary.
