Hey guy ,

Thanks to your help I was able to successful able to remove the engine out of my 83 944 (automatic) as show'n in the picture. what I do ask is does it look like I bent the drive shaft? it looks pretty straight, and one last question how (know that I removed the engine ) do I remove the bell housing?

Looks like the pilot bearing came out with the drive shaft. You will need to remove the bearing from the end of the shaft, then remove the clip that holds the damper in place. Once you get the damper off you should be able to see if you bent the shaft.

Here are two lifting rings on the engine - one at he back of he cam tower, one under the airbox beside the alternator...

Behind the flex damper in your pic is a collar held by an 8mm inner hex bolt. Remove that bolt and slide the flex damper to the rear. Then you can get to the C clip. As Jeff said, that pilot bearing has to come off before you slide the flex damper off the shaft. Once you're done that, 4 bolts hold the bellhousing to the torque tube.

Good job getting that motor out.
