What The Hell Is That Button For?!?!?!?

I've been meaning to ask for a while but I kept forgeting!

I have a '92 944 Cab and on the center console above the Gear stick are 4 buttons, (but space for 5). There's 1 for the hood, for the mirror selector, to lock the doors, then a space for the imobiliser LED, then another switch with another LED under it!?!?

When the ignition is on and the switch is down the LED flashes, but it stays off when the ignition is off.

I think it may be something to do with the alarm but I'm not sure. (Bet I sound stoopid!!).

I met a guy with a 944 and he told me his brother has a Cab which also has this switch but he didn't know what it was either.
The 'enthusiast' that I bought the car from was also flumexed!

Someone tell me what it does.............Please!!!!

It could be for releasing an oil slick out the back......or nails.......or maybe for front mounted machine guns..............or maybe......just maybe........IT DOESN"T DO ANYTHING!!

It's the switch that lets you know if your LED light will flash when you turn the immobilizer on! It's also a low frequency hypnotic suggestion transmorgiphierographic device (&REG to the Porsche corp.) for when you have the special someone (ie your woman) in the car, or you're riding with an important client.http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pyth.gif

Does the hypnotic suggestion work with everyone?........not just clients?.........say.............women?

It only works on some, most are sadly immune to it's powers.

I've had better luck painting a white dot on the dash about the size of the bottom of a coke can. A little larger than a silver dollar for us more "mature" drivers.

Sounds like the door lock button.

I didn't know there was such a thing as a '92 944 S2 cab.....I thought all the '92 cars were 968s?

angelboy 09-13-2002 12:21 AM

Mine is a UK model...........you know we're all a little behind over here.

It was registered June '92...........last of the 944's...........(sob)

angelboy 09-13-2002 12:23 AM

It's not the door lock. The door lock has a little pic of a key on it, my button has nowt????

I got a idea,.... push it and see what it does:D Wait, wait,... its a on and off switch for all the other switches:D A boost button? Stiffer shocks(my 87 300zx turbo had a button to stiffin the shocks)? Automatic timing belt tensioner? HA HA HA, im done by everyone:D

angelboy 09-14-2002 01:20 AM

.......never thought of that............I'll press it and see what happens

I have a '90 cab and it has the following:

Top Up/Down control
Mirrors
Door Locks
Blank
Blank

Do you have headlight washers?

Z-man 09-19-2002 05:40 AM

Is this mystery button labeled "Don't Panic!" ??

Try pressing it 42 times and see what happens...

But remember the old red-neck law: when someone says, "Hey Vern, watch this," it is usually followed by someone loosing an appendage.

Bottom line: I have no idea what that button would do. Is it stock looking, or does it look like the previous owner installed it?

angelboy 09-19-2002 06:48 AM

Yes and Yes.

I have headlight washers but they're used via the control stalk...........obviously they only work when the lights are up.

..........and yes, it's a factory switch not an after market.

I'll try and get some photos of it tonight..........if a i remember! http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/bomb.gif

If you have the Porsche dealer installed immboliser/alarm with movement sensors (the one with a small key to insert before starting) then that button is probably to disconnect the inside alarm feature so that the alarm will operate with the roof down.
Check with your Porsche dealer. If you have that type of alarm then there are a couple of movement sensors at each end of the dashboard.

Or you can try this; set the alarm with the top open and reach in and wave your hand about, the alarm should work. Turn the switch to the other position and try again, the alarm should not work.

Of course, don't try this in view of anyone as a white van with medical personnel will turn up.
