I need help.I have a 1984 Porsche 944 and replaced the alternator and its still not charging the battery. There is a blue wire and a red wire with 4 black strips that I reconnected and its not working. Some one told me that the blue wire goes to the starter. I took a look at it and there no blue wire there .I followed the wire and it seems that its goes into the firewall of the car behind the steering wheel please help me thanks cuzzie cuz

The blue wire should have +12v on it to energize the field. If it's not doing that, revving the engine to over around 2500 rpm should self-energize the field. Check the blue wire for voltage. The wiring diagram does show it going to a post on the starter. Start the engine and rev it up and see if there's over 13.8 volts on the battery (charging) if there's no volts on the blue wire.
Mine has the issue of no volts on the blue wire but after I start the motor and rev it up, the alternator works fine until I shut the motor off. I'll worry about trouble shooting it later, since it fills my needs for now.

I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved. Last edited by mytrplseven; 04-04-2014 at 04:33 PM.. |
