Maybe it's not getting any gas? Check fuel pressure, fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuse, related items.

What year car?

I have traced it to a vacuum leak I can get it to start if I manually use the vacuum pump from inside the air filter housing

Smoke test it. Correct vacuum leaks, drive!
