Lightbulb 924 Turbo performance throttle????

Hi

I could get hold of a 924 Turbo performance throttle cheap. Now my question is - would this fit on my 924 n/a - 1982 ?????? The seller claims it would gain me 15 more HP ??? Would I need anything else beside or is it a straight forward bolt on job????

Thanks guys

Frankydoom,

Early turbo cars had a two butterfly throttle like the 924na. The 82 had a sinngle butterfly like the 944. According to the Parts & Ref Manual, the turbo two butterfly takes the same gasket Let me check PET & see if there is any difference in part # for the turbo & na throttles.

There is a difference part #. It must have bigger butterflies. Since the gasket is the same, you probaly just have to make sure the boot & microswitches fit.

Simply changing the throttle body will give you no boost in power. You need to get more flow through your head. That is the restriction on the 924 motor.

Read the articles on my site under 924 power tricks. It outlines what you need to do in order to get more power from your 924. They work!

frankydoom,

eturbo is right about not expecting great increases in power from just swapping a throttle body. With no other changes, a bigger throttle body might give you a little more at high rpm. 15 more hp is about 12% increase. I doubt you would get this off just the throttle change. Maybe a wider duration cam & the CIS flapper thing for the fuel mixture off a turbo would get you on up there with 15 or 20 more hp. On some motors advancing the cam timing helps, but from my memory on a rough stock cam check, the stock key & pulley has the cam advanced 2 degrees.

If you want, I'll try to measure the butterflies on a turbo throttle for you to compare. Give me the stock measurements & I'll run it through a hp & torque software program to see if we get an increase with the throttle change.

You can substitute the throttle body from an older 5 cylinder Audi. The openings are noticable larger but I dont have any exact numbers. It will bolt right in with only minor modifications, one or two tappings to accomodate mounting the switches and you have to use your original butterfly shafts so that the throttle cable stuff can reattach without modification. I believe Obin made this modification some time ago, do a search.
I got the throttle body in the boneyard for $10.00!!!
I never got this done so cannot comment on how much power increase it provides. I suspect that without other intake mods it will not do much.
Good luck,
Jon

Hi - Just to say a quick TY for all the responses - I did not get the Throttle - as it was from a 85 and would not fit. - My engine is running great at the moment - so I wont tamper with it for now - I will need to replace my front fenders though - ca you guys post a few pics of 944 fenders as i have the Carrera GT fenders on mine and wondering if they would fit . Pictures of my car can be found on :
