Purchasing 87 944 Auto Trans
Sold my 88 MB260e w/165k miles super clean and original to purchase a 87-944 Porsche with an automatic transmission and all I hear is not good? But one of the guys I remember reading stated he can convert an auto trans to a manual trans in two steps. 1-sell the auto trans 944 2- purchase a manual 944. LMAO
Now I have cold feet? Any advise? |

Why not just buy a manual trans 944?

I have an 85.5 automatic and it is my daily driver in DC suburban traffic and I love it. If the car you have is in good shape, it can still be a fun car. However for the open road the manual would be my preference. One thing about the 944 automatic is it does not have an over drive so the gearing is a little lower, although in comparison to a 944S or turbo the engine rpms are not that much different.
Have to agree if you want a manual there are plenty of cars available to buy. In the meantime enjoy what you have. |

You can drink a cup of coffee while driving in traffic with an auto
![]() Better yet, you can place your hand on the girl friend's/wife's/boy friend's/husband's knee/leg/thigh... and keep it there because you do not have to row through the gears! ![]()
