Removing the parking brake cable,...

Nothing is ever straight forward with these cars! I went to install the parking brakes for each wheel and noticed the cable on the passenger side wont relax. I cant install the shoes while contracted. I decided not to force it on because even if I got it on the shoes would always be engaged inside the rotor.

Anyways,... I WD40'ed everything and it just wont relax. I looked up by the torque tube/ torsion tube where the two sides meet. I pull back the little boots and found the plastic sleeve scrunched up on the side that wont relax. Im thinking maybe its all scrunched/ messed up inside the protective tube and its preventing the cable from moving freely. I mean its jammed. anyways,... after spending an hour trying to free it I decided to replace this parking brake cables with the one on my old car but I cant figure out how to get it off the car where its attached from underneath the car. I check the FSM and it says nothing.

Loosen it inside the car at the handle (10mm lock nut on the cable end, then spin the mounting piece).

+1
Then it will just pull out (may need to twist a little to loosen it up).

I lossened the cable from the inside. I tried pushin the cable it self through but I won't go. Need to remove it along with the black protec@tive sleeve. Does that sleeve just pressed into that tube from the outside?

Check the diagrams on the host site...

Porsche 924S/944/968 Brake Miscellaneous - Page 2

There are two cables, which are connected up behind the torque tube. I think the cable to the drivers side is the direct connection to the parking brake handle, and the passenger side cable only exist between the 'y' connection at the torque tube to the brake assembly on the passenger side wheel.

If this is ture, then loosing the cable end inside the car at the parking brake will not release the cable attached to the passenger side brake assembly. You will have to disconnect the passenger side cable where it attached to the 'y' assembly above the torque tube.

Hope this helps, good luck.

JM

Hi Charles, One thing to remember about removing or replacing cables. Never pull a cable through a tunnel/hole without attaching a pull wire to the end so you will be able to retrieve the cable or a new one.

Cheers,
Larry

Good advice. I will do that before removing the cable fromthe NA.

@ JRMock - its the other way around. But no worries I got it. I removed the whole cable from the 51. From the outside it was only pressed into the tube. just going to remove the one from the NA and just replace. Thakns guys.

He hasn't posted since 2011, so he is probably not going to answer.
