88 944 Mirror not tilting down
Hello all,
I am running into an issue with my drivers side mirror not tilting down to see cars behind me, wondering if anyone could point me to the ez-fix? I get power to it, it just seems to click/thunk, like it has bottomed out. Up/left/right is fine, problem is tilting up directs my view to the sky when driving. I vaguely remember that I can put a flathead screwdriver in the bottom portion of the side mirror and remove a locking clip...am I heading in the right direction? Thanks for the help, it's appreciated! |

The mechanism is fairly delicate. I wedged a piece of vacuum tubing along the edge to hold the mirror in place after buying a used motor that still didn't tilt left to right.
Yes, somehow you can remove the mirror face and get access to the motor assembly to unscrew it from the housing and repair or replace it. As I recall removing the mirror assembly places a lot of stress on the plastic mechanical components that are by this stage in life very brittle plastic. So be careful. I have not heard of any repair kits or guides or instructions... |
