Feeler for what a running 83 944 parts car (no title) is worth

I have a 944 Chump Car and when we bought it, it came with a running 1983 944 as a parts car.

We originally wanted to title and drive the 83, but after being shut down at every turn I don't think there is a path to the title thats reasonable. Long story, for another time.

We are debating our options at this point regarding race day (september). One of the options is to sell the parts car as a whole, possibly to someone with the proper connections to title the car, or to someone in a state where a title is not required for antiques, or just as a car for parts, and invest that cash into some other options.

What would be a ballpark value on an 83, running fairly well mechanically but pretty rough cosmetically 944? Paint is in poor shape. Car has been collision repaired at one point in its life but it looks like they did a decent job. Engine runs strong, doesn't overheat, brakes are good, transmission and clutch are great. Good tires.

I realize there are a lot of variables. I'm just trying to get an idea if the car is worth $500 or $1500.

Have you tried going to one of those DMV registration services? I bought my 944 off a dealer w/ no title and he told me to go to a service he uses often. At first, I didn't want to do that and went to the DMV directly, but found out that it would be been about $700 to get the title and transfer it into my name plus they said I was missing "necessary" paperwork. I decided to go the DMV service and they got it for me with half the price and with no extra paperwork then what the dealer gave me.

If you cant do that, than parting it out will sadly be the best bet if you want to make the most back, money wise. If its not pretty, then getting a good amount for it is harder.

We've been down a few roads with the DMV and with third parties. Every third party we've contacted has either refused to deal with us or taken our information and said they would get back and don't. Florida, apparently, is pretty tough to get a title in.

Without going too much off topic, several states have bonded title options which we also looked into. In Florida you have to get a court order for a title to a car you don't own and hasnt been signed over. I suppose technically both of these options are possible, but not really worth it compared to our next option, which is to purchase a non-running 944 for something like $500 that has a straight body and drop our engine in (parting out the old car). Lots of extra labor, yeah, but there are other benefits such as parting out the rest of the car for spares.

It's worth more as a parts car than it is as a runner after you clear the title.

I sold my 83 with a clear title for $4000 to someone to make it a track car.
