Exclamation Rear Hatch Advice

Hello my fellow Pelicans. So I removed my rear hatch for the glass separation rehab and I believe I am in a bit of a bind. I need some procedure or part help. I got the frame removed in short order without bending the frame or breaking the glass, but the rubber seal that surrounds the glass is a bit tatty. The seal pulled off and stayed in the frame in numerous pieces across the top of the hatch where the hinges are. As it stands now I do not have a continuous seal surrounding the glass. What do I do? Is there a replacement seal and if there is what is the part number or where to get it? I assume Pelican has this part, but looking for advice from someone who has been in this situation before. On a side note the 83 base N/A will be going to paint in the first part of June to get her a fresh new coat of Zermatt silver. Can't wait and I will post photos. I appreciate all help in this matter.

There are several post on RL regarding this. The "seal" you are speaking about is the sealant that is used to seal the glass. It is not a gasket.

You really need to search for the thread on RL for this job.

There is all kinds of specific info you need to know.

I did this as well and yes remove all old seal. I used black rtv sealer when I reattached mine 4 years ago no problem and I have new struts as well. I googled this project and it led me to step by step procedure. I really think it was on here. Try looking into clarks garage for this..

Sitka Move It cold bond professional windshield installer urethane based adhesive. It uses two types of Sitka primers for both the glass and the metal frame. Glass man said this stuff is not playing around. He said it makes the 3m stuff look like elmers glue. We will see and I will report back.

Where can you buy this from? All I seem to find is MSDS sheets on this stuff.

Frame and glass are SOLID. I won't know if they will separate after the hatch is installed and the struts connected. If it does, then there is no adhesive on the market that will every hold it. The Sitka Move-It is way stout. For attest, I stuck a piece of car glass (tempered) to a metal frame piece from a junkyard and I cannot move it at all or pull the glass off the adhesive after I intentionally broke it . I will update when car is finished with paint and hatch reinstalled and subjected to Louisiana heat and roads. If you do not know, Louisiana has the best low bidder construction firms in the country and the worst roads in the country as far as smoothness, durability, and general state of repair. As far as paint report, she is down to the wet color sand and cut and buff. She looks like wet ice. I will post when reassembled with all fixtures and trim.
