Another coolant leak question - '88 924S.
The other day, I drove my car about 30 miles in 100+ degree weather with the a/c running the whole time. The car's temperature warmed up, but never got into the red. When I stopped the car and turned off the engine, coolant was leaking from 2 spots: 1) from the cap on the reservoir and 2) from an unknown spot toward the back/middle of the engine compartment. The vast majority of the coolant was leaking from the back/middle of the engine compartment.
I carefully drove the car home (another 30 miles.) The temperature did nothing different. When I got home, I turned the car off and checked for leaks. The car was completely dry. No leaks at all. With the car running and warm, the coolant measured just a bit below the "minimum" line. What do you guys make of this? Did I just overfill the system or get the mixture wrong? And what's with the leaking from the back/middle of the engine compartment? Did I blow a hose or is there some kind of drain back there? Thank you.

Your heater control valve is back there, along with a bunch of heater hoses. Likely one or more of those are loose, split or the valve is leaking.
Your radiator cap may also be old and no longer holding sufficient pressure - it's very common on these cars for some reason.

Thanks for the info. Wouldn't these valves and hoses at the back of the engine compartment continue to leak every time the car is driven? I thought it was strange that the car was leaking heavily at first, but then was bone dry the very next time I drove it.

Make sure you have the correct radiator cap.
Late 924S use the 150 kpa rating at 21 pounds (early 944s use the 100 kpa rating at 14.5 pounds) In addition to what kdjones mentioned, check the clamps on all the hoses in the rear. J_AZ
