don't forget that there is a loss factor when measuring rear-wheel HP. The loss-factor value is a source of much debate but my own conclusion is that you lose 15% throught the drivetrain. I've read loads of postings/discussions on this and it always seems to swing to that value for 924/944/968 models. So a 968 stock motor generates 236 BHP at the crank, multiply by 0.85 and you get ~200 at the wheels. I had my own S2 dynoed ( http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=15&t=011134 ) the same day as a 968 and he got 199 RWHP which is right in line with a 15% loss factor. The Excellence issue which had the 944S conversion to 968 motor was #99, 02/2001, "Second Wind" - Installing a 944S2 engine into a 944S Karl.

The car looks great and the 968 engine was a sick addition, will the 968 engine bolt up to a stock 944 transaxle config? thx-chris

I myself just rebuilt my 944S engine, but like the idea of the 968 swap. Other than the engine itself, did you have to replace anything else under the hood? Did it pretty much line right up and drop in? I'd be interested in seeing how hard a swap like that would be.
Can anyone think of any issues that might cause with preformance (i.e. transmission, exhaust, etc)? -S

Hi, I was linked to this thread from Rennlist. I'm about to do a similar swap, a 968 engine into my S2 Cabrio. I'm using the 968 DME, bellhousing, clutch, torque tube and air meter. I understand however that I need to make some modifications to the DME wiring? Does anyone know the details? I think the tach hookup might be different too.
Thanks for any advice, BTW the 944S/968 swap looks cool. -Joel.
