cooling/water hose kits available anywhere?
I have a '90 S2
I was wondering if anyone knew of any cooling/water hose kits that replaces the major hoses on our cars that need replacement after 20 years? I know I can order each hose separately but it'll be even easier if there was a kit already put together. |

beware of aftermarket radiator hoses. we have had two of them here not fit. the shape is slightly different, and different enough for the power steering pulley to hit one and the fan hit the other and each one slice it

Did you get that hose at a local auto shop or from one of the Porsche vendors?
I see the hose kits online from Lindsey, 944online, and was just informed that Paragon also has a kit so I'm hoping that these vendors hoses are going to fit right without issues (compared so say autozone or napa for example). |

flash - i think what you have there on the left is the early-944 style lower rad hose.
when porsche changed the radiator frame on the 944 to fit the intercooler for the 951 they moved the rad down a few inches and found the hose would cut on the PS pump. so the hose was revised to fit...since the 968 uses basically a 951 radiator the late-944 hose carried on. |

nope - both hoses were for the 968, according to the vendors. both hoses had the correct part numbers. one was from an aftermarket source. the other was from a porsche dealership. they are very close, but the 1/2" difference in location of the bends created a fitment issue.
like i said, this has now happened twice here. both times the customer tried to save a buck by buying the cheaper hose. both times it failed. buyer beware. |

As much as I prefer to give flash a hard time than to agree with him, he is correct. . .have seen this on multiple cars.

I tried a NAPA rad hose that they were more than happy to special order, got it in a day instead of 4-6 (to East coast) from Pelican. Should have waited for Pelican, it was just wrong enough that I ended up buying from Pelican after all. Get a good one the first time.

even with pelican, sometimes you have to be careful. they are pretty good about telling you what the supplier is, and whether it is a genuine porsche hose, or an approved vendor, or not, but you have to read the fine print. it's easy to skip over it and get something you didn't intend.
