Oil cooler/Oil pump Questions

I have installed the new oil cooler gaskets and am at the point to start the engine, heat the gunk that's in the cooling system, flush it and winterize the system. Cranked the engine and ran it for 8-10 seconds and shut it down. No oil pressure indicated. Pulled the oil filter off (new one) not a drop of oil in it. As per Clark's, to prime an oil pump, I removed the spark plugs and using a turkey baster, injected oil down the hole where the filter get its oil and hand cranked the engine counter clock wise. I put almost a half quart down the hole. I re-installed the filter and spun the engine with the starter. I removed the filter again and no sign of oil. If the bullet casing shaped piece that fits on the end of the spring behind the oil sender unit is stuck or blocked in, would that stop the oil pump from pumping oil to the filter or just render the oil gauge not giving a reading. Any ideas are most welcome. Thanks

The 'hole' you need to pour the oil in is the outer feed. The threaded hole in the center goes to the main oil passage.

JR, Thank you for your reply. I checked Clark's after reading your reply. It states "center hole". This could be a typo on his site? This job has gotten to be too much with my new work hours and not having a heated garage anymore to work in. The car is going to a local shop I have used before. Again, thank you for your reply and have a happy New Year! Fritz

Did your garage get the oil pressure back? If so what was the issue they found or what magic did they use?

Iplagolf:

Proper way to prime the oil pump is to remove the oil filter. Pour motor oil 1/2 a quart in center oil thread hole/adapter. Spin motor backwards 1 revolution. Repeat another time. Then reinstall filter and start motor. Use 10w-30 or 5w-40 Synthetic.....
PM Me if needed. Later...
