Porsche 924 turbo shift issues

hey guys I'm having an issue with my Porsche popping out of 1st gear and i wanted to replace the shift linkage but it seems like the only way i can do it is to drop the transmission any advice i am working on being an auto tech so i have some experience but this is my first time dropping an trans axle so any advise would be appreciated thank you and also can i roll my car some where while the transaxle is out

I'm guessing you have a '79? It makes a difference...

and yes to the left and back in front of it is the reverse

You have the G31 transmission, similar to the 915 in air-cooled 911's. You can't force the shift with these, even when not worn out. Here's a place to get what you need (dogteeth first gear, may as well get 1,2,3 if rebuilding tranny). The rear shift coupling bushings wear out on these as well. Not sure that applies to gear popping out. Mainly getting it into gear. I replaced the bushings on a similar coupler on my 911, and it improved the shift capabilities, not holding it in gear.

alright thank you for the help im probably going to try and drop it today then if its actually in the transmission darn was hoping it would be a somewhat easy fix
