OH DEAR! what could that rattle be!

I notice it as I slow down in 2nd mostly, I hear it also in 1st too, but it doesn't seem to be quite as loud. It seems kind of like it is a loose exhaust kind of sound -- kind of rattly -- not really grindy, but I don't hear it too much when I put in the clutch (I would have thought it would have reached resonance as I varied the RPM even with the clutch in). I'll check some more tomorrow -- any ideas guys?

I had that problem on my "S" too. Sounds like a muffled rattle from under the car. I would hear it the most at 3200rpms. Sounded to me like it was coming from the exhuast system somewhere. Just make sure your heat shields aren't touching anything.

Thaks OK (OverKill)-- I'll check that out -- it does seem to happen between about 2500 and 3500 RPM. I was going to meniton that but it was kind of late last night. I'm guessing the fix is having that heat sheild taked back down (assuming that it is the exhaust).

My '88 924S does the same thing. It did it off an on all summer. I figured it had something to do with the exhaust or heat shielding. All of that *looked* OK though. My other thought was the torque tube, but I don't like that thought.

It's got to be something petty, just check the shield over the cat and the muffler. Get one of those mechanic mirrors to around those tight corners.

I had that same problem up until 2 days ago. Then I heard a bang and the car goes no where. Time to take it apart and see what it was.
