1987 944s Fuel Injectors

What are a good aftermarket fuel injector for a 944s that are affordable? Is it just as effective to have them re-built?

Sometimes a good cleaning and new gaskets is all you need.

sent to Witchhunter for clean, test, and new gaskets. resurrecting a 944S that had been sitting for a few years.

worked great. if any of your injectors do not clean and test/flow correctly they will tell you.

cant recall the name of the shop that will rebuild them if there is a problem with the coils.

good luck.

I pulled all four of mine for checkout for my '83 944. All were bad so what to do? I checked the stats at AutoZone and found that a GM injector would work OK. Still haven't checked it out since the engine is out of the car. They look a bit different than the original bosch units, but they only cost about 45.00 apiece instead of about a zillion. I'll send you the numbers if you want to try them.. Also check out some of the local diesel shops. Many will work on gas injectors too. Checkout and rebuild costs in my area are 25.00 per injector. Not bad unless you have them all bad like I did. Still cost 100.00 to get the bad news..

Be careful to get/match the impedance 2.3-2.5 ohms. When mine failed I upgraded to ford injectors which worked flawlessly. The OEM usually fail over time. This issue is common cause for under hood fires. These cars are also +25yrs old. Later...

One of mine started spraying fuel from between the plastic and metal body. I heard a hissing noise when I was parked at HomeDepot. Popped the hood, and there it was.

I just mop it up with a rag every drive, and dry the fuel soaked rag by hanging it on the heater pipe above the exhaust manifold.

why mop up, it will just evaporate over time.

I realized when I read your post that was possible. just never heard anyone have that happen.

Considering that Ford uses Bosch injectors also, they may very well have the same part# as the 944S. Specs are:

25-lb/hr, 264-cc/min @ 3-bar

You can use the following injectors:

Porsche 944 606 112 01
Bosch 0 280 150 811
Airtex 4G1503
Bostech MP5046
BWD 57745
BWD 63813
Delphi FJ10212
Echlin 2-18236
GB 85212147
Python 633143
Wells M483

Note that flow-rates are quoted at a standard 3-bar of fuel-pressure. While the 944S may use a 3.5-bar FPR to flow 27-lb/hr, these are still considered 25-lb/hr @ 3-bar injectors.
