Cheaper Alternatives for the Transmission Plugs?

Doing the rear diff fluid replacement and looking to replace the drain/fill plugs since they are rusted and stripping. Does anyone know the VW cross reference part for these 17MM allen bolts.

Pelican it is

$3.50 it is then, should I use both anti-sieze and telfon tape to prevent these buggers from becoming a pita to remove in the future? From what clark's-garage says, 18ft-lbs are the torque down specs too, any objections?

No need for teflon tape or antiseize. The reason that most of those plugs are damaged is due to gorilla hands tightening way beyond what is necessary. You just want enough to keep the plug from vibrating loose (i.e. not very much). Eighteen lb ft sounds about right.

Here's the page from the service manual, Sec. 30 (Transmission).

I have VW drain plugs, literally the exact same thing as the ones on Pelican. I think they were $1.50 each or something.

The local VW dealer has them $4 each, so I bought 2, now I have to wait 3 days since its a special order. Blah
