What are you guys using for potentiometers?

I have a great multimeter but it doesn't have a pot built it - it would save me a lot of hassle when testing sensors and circuits. What do you guys use? I see them all the way from a couple dollars all the way to hundreds, even thousands.

Ebay is showing a lot of basic wire-wound stuff (like electric guitar pots) but I'm hesitant to trust them at 12-14v and/or high current. Would rather buy quality once and be able to trust it. I don't have a problem with an analog pot, I can always use my multimeter to dial in the exact resistance I need.

(Sorry for this being a general question more than a specifically 944 related post)

I usually would use Mouser.com to buy stuff like that. You can narrow down the part you need by entering what voltage you needed it to be rated for, the taper, etc.

Also, you are looking for a B or Linear tapered pot, guitar pots are A or Audio-tapered. Audio taper means that the resistance increases exponentially. You want a linear increase in resistance or it wont be effective.

How about a new meter? Something with auto-ranging?

I have had a Fluke 87 for almost 10 years now. I use it almost every day. I totally rely and trust it, and it does everything i've ever needed it to!
