Taking N/A 2.7L ROW engine out: DME question
 

Hi,

Do I really need to take the DME harness out if I drop the engine from the bottom..? I thought I could just unplug the loom from all the odds and ends, but Clarks Garage suggests removing DME. Is it because some of the loom goes under the intake manifold.. which could otherwise be left on..?

Think I'd rather remove the manifold..! It has been off fairly recently...

Starting this job tomorrow, so some quick advice much appreciated..

taking the manifold off is a lot easier than screwing with the wiring.

Well having taken the engine out today, I can tell you that it is possible not to remove the loom but it is quite a pain. The intake manifold has to be removed, and the AOS filter to get access to various loom bits that are clamped in all sorts of places.

I used the removing the crossmember method and lowering the engine out. The most difficult bit was putting the crossmember back on whilst refitting the steering splines so that the car could be towed. I found the top steering universal joint had to be removed to refit the lower steering splines, and then to get the top UJ splines in, the crossmember had to be lowered by unscrewing the retaining bolts without actually taking them out. Huge PITA.


Anyway it's out, and I'm drinking beer :)
