Better car for a track car candidate because of nearly 50 lbs lighter.

Most 944's were ordered with the sunroof. A sunroof delete is not common and usually comes with other nice options such as rear wiper delete, raised hub steering wheel, M456 suspension, Fuchs wheels, or sport seats. A lot of people that ordered them without the sunroof usually added some of the other nice options that I had listed.

After 1983, all 944s destined for America came with a sunroof as standard equipment.
It was a special order to get a car without. Most sunroof delete cars are 1983, with a handful of 1984 models. Anything past 1984 without a sunroof is rare. When I was going to convert the 944S into a race car, I was going to take the roof off to build the cage, and replace the roof with one from a 924 to get rid of the sunroof. Less weight at the very top of the car, where its most critical. |

20th St Auto in Phoenix has an '85 Euro sunroof delete for sale. Fair condition, I drove it, nothing special, and overpriced at $4500. Been for sale for quite some time.

Dilweed- if this is the white one with the limited slip, it is a great deal. Matt has taken good care of the car it seems.

Sunroof delete is a special car. But not as special as one with a manual steering rack.
The white car has both, but it looks like it was "put" together.

You can switch to a manual rack...but not to a factory sunroof delete. As far as being rare, sunroof delete trumps most other options.

Sunroof was not standard on all 1984 US 944 cars. It was a $680 dollar option listed on my car's window sticker. They may have shipped most of them over here with a sunroof but it wasn't standard. Base price was $21,440, leather sports seats were $1194, rear wiper $240, cruise control $295, sport steering wheel $95, front and rear stabilizer bars $130, sunroof $680, and a Monterey radio cassette player $600. With a $365 destination charge my car's total sticker price was $25,014. That's about 3 times the price of a VW Golf GTI and twice the price of a VW Scirroco in 1984.

The sunroof was not a standard feature in 1985 as well. It is listed as an option on my 85's window sticker:

Interesting to see the base price stayed the same for 1985 but the cost of some of the options went up. Wish I had the window sticker for my Stone Gray S2. I don't think Stone Gray is a very common color and cost $460 in 1985. The PO of my 84 (the original owner) found the window sticker 4 years after I bought the car from him. Like having the birth certificate. A window sticker picture thread would be educational.

Technically, a sunroof was an option. Probably shows up as an option even on 968 window stickers.
After 1983, all cars shipped to America had the optional sunroof unless it was a special order. |

A friend's dad ordered a new 944 in 1984, and he was surprised it came with a sunroof, even though he did not order it.
He was told by the dealer he had to order "Sunroof Delete" or it came with one. |

My 87 924s does not have a sun roof. I don't think that is rair. They were trying to make a cheap car yes?
