Bumper won't line up
Replaced the driver's side bumper shock on my 86 944. Found out the passenger's side is pushed in a little too. Went to put the bumper back on just to see how crooked it would look. Can't seem to get the holes to line up to put the bolts through. Do I need to try to pound the shocks to one side or the other to get them to line up? Anyone else come across this and how did you get them to line up?

Sounds like you need to replace the passenger side bumper shock as well? If the bumper took a side hit it may have bent the mounting area a little bit and you may have to shim with washers to get to line up. Might be easier if you could post some photos.

Thanks, Shimming it should work. I will first have to figure out if I can afford another shock or, for now, collapse the passenger's side the rest of the way and put the old one back on.

Used bumper shocks are pretty cheap. I would try to make your bumper stick out like it is suppose to.

I know, it would just be temporary until I can get another one. I still have to figure out how to fix the wire covers for the back of the blinkers that disintegrated when I unplugged them.
Tried pieces of 7/8" ID hose, electrical tape, shrink wrap to no avail. Last resort will be liquid electrical tape painted on when I do the final install of the bumper. |
