Question '87 944 na hates nascar thinks its a bronco

Hello, and please help!!

I own a 1987 Porsche 944 2.5 liter na 5 speed. I have had this car about 2 years. First 6 months loved it, until a few problems started to show.

At first just occasionally during long 30 to 45 mph left hand turns my car would loose power and stall out. If the clutch is pressed in the engine would cut out and die completely. Never happened in a right hand turn only left. The car would start right up after the turn. Then a few weeks later once in a while the car would buck and jerk while trying to accelerate from the left turns as the road straightened out. I have been working on and off for a few months now trying to figure out what is causing these problems.

I have replaced the in-line fuel filter, the fuel pump, the fuel pressure regulator, the fuel damper, the spark plugs, the distributor rotor and cap, the ignition coil, the spark plugs, and the fuel pump relay. Still cuts out and stalls in left hand turns and bucks like a pissed off bull at the rodeo when trying to accelerate.

Love the car, my first Porsche was fast but not too fast, cornered like it's on rails.

Any insight on why or what is the cause? Any help is much appreciated.

Man thats a tricky one. Check your steering shaft, see if any wires are caught or binding as you turn the wheel.

I wonder if the door on the AFM is somehow loose and swinging open on the left hand turns? This would cause it to run really rich.

I would look at the fuel strainer in the tank. They crack and can cause this type of behaviour.

I had similar problems with race car years ago. Turned out to be a grounding issue, although I never found the exact wire(s) causing the problem. The motor mounts were in such poor shape they were letting the engine move way to much. Replaced motor mounts, checked, clean and tighten all ground wires. No more problem.

Good luck.

Check your J-boot too for cracks underneath.
