Dripping gas

I just took my 89 NA out of storage and put in some gas drove it around for a day and later smelled gas. The next day I smelled it again. I started looking and found it dripping from the gas tank shield slow drip. Its been sitting for three day's now and hasn't dripped more then about three cups. So today I go out and start the car and look under the rear below the tank and it's dripping much faster. I was wondering if it's just a hose or do I need to pull the tranny and replace everything> than you for your help.

I doubt you need to drop the trans.

Undo the fuel pump cover and inspect - I bet the hose between the tank and pump is trash. Use 3/8" fuel hose if you splice in new tubing (that's about 10mm).

tank to pump hose or pump to hardline hose, could also be a leaking fuel pump (I'm waiting on a pump to replace a leaking one myself).

BTW, anyone ever attempted to rebuild a Bosch pump? Mine is leaking at the top where the pump mechanism slides into the casing....assuming a bad o-ring.

Going through the same issue with my Bosch pump (new version with built in check valve). Let me know what you find. Also have a practically new Bosch pump that's non-op (presumably took a 2 foot drop onto concrete). Any tips?

Did you just add some gas or top it off? If you topped it off it's possible your leak is in the area of the fuel level sender unit on top of the tank or the fuel line fittings there. Mine was around the rubber gasket under the big plastic screw-on bolt that secures the sender to the top of the tank. It only showed up when the tank was topped off. Remember to lube the threads of the plastic and the gasket with some silicone grease or it won't tighten properly.

Some people try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

Zims used to sell rebuilt fuel pumps years ago. They had a local rebuilder/supplier.

Top of the pump is sealed with a special press and seal. Very difficult to find shop or seal.

So my answer is not possible.

I was thinking that I could knock out the crimps and install a new o-ring, then use a dull chisel to knock them back in....I hate to toss the pump, it's only about a year old.

Turned out to be the pump. While I was in there I thought I would replace both hoses but the flaps were unable to get the two hoses on the pump. So I called the dealer and was shocked to find that they want $93.plus change for the long hose and $30 plus for the short hose. Lucky for me they were still in good shape. So I used the ones I had. Thanks for the help tho.
