Hi rev vibration

I followed the vibration threads closely because I have a vibration also, around 5,800 rpm. It's an 86NA and I've done a lot of work on it last 3 yrs including OE mounts, clutch and tranny mount.

Have checked the BS timing several times and things appear good. Runs smooth and strong at lower RPM. Looking at engine, it doesn't seem to move when rev'd in neutral but you can feel it at the shifter when driving. Feels like the rear of engine is loose. Do I have a BS timing problem or should I look somewhere else? Thanks.

could easily be an out of balance pressure plate and/or flywheel. did you have those balanced when you did the clutch?

I was thinking that but hoped it was something else. I wasn't real confident that the machine shop did everything I asked. In hindsite, should have had it checked again. Guess I'll have to drive a little slower:-)

Yeah, I was using a friends rack at his shop and was pressed for time. Not a job I want to do twice. Maybe something else will break and I won't feel so bad:-)

yeah - that sucks on a 944. it was bad enough that i did 8 clutch jobs on the blue 968 in the period of 1 year, as i was trying to design a new disk that would dampen vibration with a single mass aluminum flywheel. at least we don't have to drop everything on the 968, unlike on the 944. what a crappy design. that alone would be enough for me to justify swapping out the engine so i could use the 968 bell housing.

i'd also hate to get in there, pull it all apart, balance it, and then find out it was something like torque tube bearings, and have to do most of it all over again.

Sort of good news, after a little more research and driving pretty fast, it looks like the shake is only in second gear. I've tightened all the parts in the linkage (Only944 upgrades) but something must be touching something it shouldn't. At least I'm not pulling the clutch again:-).
Next step, get her up on a rack and check linkage alignment.
