1983 944 fuel injector removal

Hi folks,

New member here. I need to remove and rebuild my injectors. I've found videos on how to rebuild them but haven't found one on how to remove them. I've searched a lot but couldn't find one. Sorry if this is a repeat.

Thanks in advance.

Easy-Peasey job. Injectors are clipped into the fuel rail and just press-fit into the manifold.

Remove the four bolts holding the fuel rail (four bolts, 6mm diam; use a 10mm socket) and wiggle the entire fuel rail up and out (it may take a lot of wiggling)

You should be able to get the fuel rail and injectors out without disconnecting anything (fuel lines or injector wires) but it may be easier if you do.
You can open the cap nut on the front of the fuel rail to release any fuel pressure (it will leak an ounce or two of gas out when you do that, so have a rag ready. Make sure not to loose the ball bearing inside the cap)

The injectors are held into the fuel rail by a metal clip at the cup on the rail. The clip will slide out and you can wiggle the injector loose.

For the wiring connection, I find it easiest to remove the wire clip entirely, it just has pins in the side that retain it. Needle nose pliers can pry the wire out of each side of the connector, then the conector will come off the injector easilly. Once you disconnect the connector, re-fit the wire and it'll just push back on when you re-install.

Check to see if you got all the caps and o-rings out with the injectors; if not, you'll need to pick them out of the manifold or fuel rail.

Thanks, guys. My son and I were able to remove the injectors and flush them out using a youtube video we found. We lost one of the clips holding the injector to the fuel rail, though. :-(

Thanks again to everyone.

Hit the jump yard for the clips. Almost anything with Bosch injectors will have them. My 3 vw's do.... and those things are a dime a dozen.
