F40 Pix

This Beutiful F40 was at the Summer Driver's Ed in St. Louis. I was actually out on the track in my 951 with this beast.

Wow, very nice to see some an F40 being driven the way it should. A guy who lives close to me owns one. He drives it maybe 3-4 times a year, and seems like a real prick .

There is still this very much perfect 6,000 mile F-40 available here in Orlando for anyone with pockets deep enough. I believe it will take somewhere near the one million dollar figure to take it away... not a bad investment for the person that originally bought it 10 years ago for around $400K. I'm willing to bet that $700- $800k is ALL that it would take to put it in your garage. They also have a 550 Barchetta that has lready nearly doubled in value since new 2 years ago. Now I just have to hit the lottery.

I rode in one on the track at Rockingham, NC when we used to have FCA events there. They are surprisingly smooth riding. Needless to say, it was plenty fast and cornered well. Brakes were super as well. The owner did not push it too much. Engine is less than 3 liters with dual turbos.

Notice the differences in the 2 cars. The one at the track was an F40 LM. Whatever that means - the owner told me all about it. He is an old professional driver and he is one of the coolest guys to ever meet. Definitely not a prick. I suppose it is more of the race version. Lights are different, hood is different, the LM has a rear under spoiler for high speed aerodynamics.

I actually have video of me passing him on the track at Gateway International. He was messing with his fuel pressure at the time. Anyway, I'm glad I did, those huge track tires were pelting me with rubber when I was behind him. If you look close enough, you can see the chuncks stuck to the tires. My car had huge black marks all over the hood and roof.

Nice Geoff, would love to get a close up look at one of those. I noticed in your profile that you have an Audi A4. How do you like it? I am contemplating trading in the VW 1.8T for an A4 1.8T. Any comments?

Rollins-

I love my Quattro.

Definitely get a Quattro A4 and not just the front wheel drive.

Mine is a 5spd and I suggest that also with the 1.8T.

I don't know what else to say....once you go quattro you'll never go back. You have to own one to understand.

Lots of great mods for the A4 too!

That's cool. Like I said, I've got the VW 1.8T already (in 5 speed ) so I know how easily modified these engines are. I guess I'll just have to take an A4 out for a ride one of these days.

Cool

Tim... go check out a Passat W8 when the 6 speed sport package comes out around January, basically the same car with MORE power and still a VW. It outperforms the twin-turbo 2.7 S4 and cost alot less.

The W8 is also a hell of a lot heavier than an A4 1.8, last time I checked I believe it weighed in at over 4000lbs. Not sure what you want in the car, but I doubt the W8 will be as tossable as the small A4. Then again, I'm probably biased because I lovethe light and agile feel of smaller cars. Also, I don't know your price range, but 40K for a W8....ouch. For the same price as a W8, I'd honestly prefer a 2 year old BMW 540i 6-speed. No Quattro, but an awesome car nonetheless.

BUT....I love Audis and I think the Quattro drivetrain is wonderful. The 1.8T is an awesome car, if I had a little more money to spend while shopping for a car, I might have ended up in one of those instead of my 944.

bob - I'll definitely check that out when I can. I was at Aristocrat VW the other day getting some work done, and I looked at a 2003 Jetta GTI. It was pretty bad ass. It's a VR6, 6 speed, over 200 hp, or so I was told. Very nice. I would go for a vr6, but the 1.8T has so much more potential with a little bit of money.

I had a 2000 GTI VR6 5spd (175hp). What a great car! I put an eibach kit on it with wheels and tires. The only thing that would make the car better is Quattro. The Audi A3 in europe is the golf/gti body with all the goodies - including quattro and an S version with the 1.8t in the 225hp variety and quattro.

Check out Audi's UK site to read more about that kraut rocket!

I liked the torque of the 6 cyl in my GTI VR6 and besides I've got a REAL turbo (951). hehehe.

The 1.8t is a little more agile because of the front end weight but the VR6 comes with more creature comforts.

my 2 cents

The F40 LM is the Le Mans version of the F40, I think they have around 750 Hp. Yea, that's right. Add three more zeros to that HP and you have the price. At the dealer near my home, there has be an F40 for sale and an F50, they both sold in a matter of a month.
