RMS install tool P234 rental offer

I bought one of these RMS ( rear main seal ) install tools on a whim a few months ago (price was right!), figure i put it too some use and rent it out to those who may need it.

This is tool P234 for installing the RMS on 944, 951 and 968. Cost new is about $130 and is likely a tool you will use once, then never touch again. I borrowed one a few years ago when i did my clutch and everything installed easily... no messing around with a PVC cap.

Using this tool with the Elring RMS i think gives you the best chance of having the seal install correctly and not leak. RMS replacement is not something you want to do twice.

Rental fee is $20 to cover my shipping expense, it will be sent out USPS which is basically 3-day air anywhere in the US. You must leave a $130 deposit on the tool before i send it out to cover my cost in the event i never get it back or you some how manage to break or damage the tool. When i get it back, i will refund you $110.

Pelican link for the P234..

Pelican Parts - Product Information: PEL-TOL-P234

I just ask you be considerate and dont hang onto it for more than a month while you slowly take apart your car.

Let me know if interested.

Very cool of you to offer!

I wish I had that tool - doing the RMS on a 968 6-speed is a *****. Are you sure it works on 968s with that 2-piece bellhousing?

I have the same tool. Yes it works great on my 968. Made rms install toooo easy especially with the motor still in the car. As you know space is very limited.

Think I'm going to need this, can work out the deposit payment details with you later.

Seems like you've maybe done a few of these. Clutch has relatively few miles on it, 2-3K but I've got to check out the RMS as it seems to be leaking quite a bit.

I'm assuming the clutch has to be removed but not the flywheel to get to the RMS, won't know until I get in there. Are any clutch alignment tools needed when putting things back together ?

On a pain and annoyance scale how would your rate the RMS job compared to the Rod bearings/pan gasket or the T-bar replacement?

Thanks,
Brian

The flywheel has to be removed also for access to the RMS. Basically it is the last step of a clutch job before reassembly can begin. There is a clutch alignment tool, but if i remember right one from a Ford works and is readily available. Not sure what happened to the alignment tool i had but i am sure someone has one they can loan / give you between here and RL.

To rate the RMS / clutch replacement i would have to place it under rod bearings and torsion bars.. maybe a 6/10 instead of a 8/10. It is basically all labor taking stuff off the car. In my opinion the biggest PITA is always taking out the transmission. No matter how many times i have done it, even with the car on a lift i hate doing it.

I have the RMS tool available to mail out, just PM me if you think you will need it and we can figure everything out.

A literal 1 second google search says no, this will not work on a 2008 Cayman 3.4.
