Cogs Cogs

Hey, has anyone ever used Cogs Cogs to rebuild their tranny's? It appears, according to their website, that a complete rebuild is $595.00. Pretty cheap if you ask me. Please PM me if you have any strong feelings about this subject, thanks!

It's the same address as German Auto Dismantlers, and if my memory serves me correctly, I think I've read some pretty negative things about them in the past. Don't quote me though, hopefully someone else can chime in. In the meantime, searching German Auto Dismantlers on this site seems to show a reputation similar to Motor Meister (and that's not good if you're not familiar)....

There's one or two reputable Porsche tranny rebuilders in my area, but I don't know about their prices.

Good luck!

I can't even buy the parts at my cost for $595. No way anyone can remanufacture a transmission at that price: bearings, synchros, seals, shims, etc. plus labor. I suspect he is advertizing a used transmission as-is.

Take a look at the website, it appears that this price includes a rebuild. I have a spare early 944 tranny that I want to refurbish but you're absolutely correct. The parts alone exceed his advertized price. Perhaps a phone call next week will be on my to-do list.

I'll report back...

Kevin Gross, above poster, rebuilt my transaxle. I highly recommend his services. Great communication and quick turnaround. My transaxle keeps getting better the more I drive it. CogsCogs had some not very good reviews so I was hesitant to go with them for the rebuild. I have an invoice for the rebuild and the parts cost are more than double what they are quoting for the rebuild. They either reuse parts that are good enough or it is a teaser rate.

I'm on the website, where does it indicate anything about what your buying is used or rebuilt? It says they rebuild failed transmissions if necessary or they dissassemble and reseal used ones- for $595 I would bet all you are getting is a resealed core, and they want a core returned as well.

It's not clear whether the price includes a rebuild or used unit, hence the call next week.
Kevin, I will PM you regarding my trans.

I just got off the phone with the company and it appears that they do not rebuild 944 tranny's due to the cost/involvement. Their advertised price is for a used unit although, according to the gentleman I spoke with, each unit is partially opened up for ring/pinion gear inspection.

When asked, they will rebuild a tranny for $1,000.00 labor plus parts.

jeeeze, it's a shame you had to call for that- you'd think that would be on the webpage with the rest of the information.
