wipers run every time i hit a bump

Guys,

I know this is a common problem that most people solve by pulling the wiper fuse. I have pulled the wiper fuse, but i would like to eventually solve this problem the "right" way. Which part is usually the culprit? the wiper lever (stalk), the relay, or the wiper motor mechanism?

Try thunking (tapping) the relay with the engine idling to simulate a bump. See if wipers come on.

Is the wiper motor always hot on these things with the switch serving to compete the ground?

Do wipers remain on after bump or do they just do one cycle?

they only do 1 cycle.

I'll try tapping on the relay, and see what happens.

There is a ground wire inside the steering column for the wipers. It is most likely worked loose enough to break the ground on hitting a bump. FAIRLY COMMON.

There are two circuits :

One is via a switch in the wiper motor which runs the wipers whenever the switch is closed, ie whenever the wipers are not parked, this circuit is independent of the stalk

The second circuit is via the stalk and wiper relay

So the problem could be either the switch in the wiper motor triggering, or a problem with the stalk and/or relay

Both circuits are fed through the same fuse

Hope this helps!

Mark
