944 soft clutch when cold

Hi
When cold, my clutch is almost air until about half way down where it starts to lift the plates. But when it warms up, it becomes more responsive more or less from when you touch the pedal.

DOes this mean my clutch is on the way out? Or the cyclinders, slave or master?

thanks for all your advice to date

MJ on Beirut

MJ,
Easy answer is "air in the hydraulic lines".

But reading your posts about the '86 944, it will become a full clutch hydraulic replacement.

First bleed the clutch lines and IF you can get a proper hydraulic line bleeder from Motive or similiar...

...it will makes the job easier.

If bleeding does not help, you begin to replace parts.

Clutch master, clutch slave and the rubber hose from the master to the slave.

Try bleeding the lines the old fashioned way by pumping the pedal until the fluid comes out clean.

I agree, those are the symptoms of bad fluid, and John is right- more than likely new fluid is going to let you know the seals in your master and slave cylinders are worn out.

if you decide to try the pressure bleeding, watch that blue line from the brake master for leaks.

this was posted on another site and I found it interesting.

When my car did this the slave cylinder was leaking, and failed dramatically shortly after.
