'83 944 wipers - no high speed

I've read through the threads and haven't found any dealing with my problem. When I bought the car over a year ago I only had one speed - low. No high, and no intermittent. I replaced the relay (with a new one), then the motor (re-manufactured), then the column switch (new). I now have low & intermittent, but still no high. Also, the low speed has always seemed slow; even with the re-manufactured motor, but at least it works... so I can live with it. I can't imagine I've missed anything, but hoping this sounds familiar to someone that has resolved the same issue.

p.s. just remembered a symptom that may help diagnose - when I switch from low to high, the wipers stop dead in their tracks.
