Calling 944 Gurus. Part # Identification HELP!!

Couple of small bits I'm really struggling to identify on the PET. The car is a '91 S2. The first is the grommet that goes on the ABS harness that is typically perished (held on with zip tie in pic) and the second is the rubber plug that is missing form the steering rack ... the one you take out to see the spot that indicates that the rack is centred.

I've searched high and low in the PET but can't see either part. I think the ABS grommet goes onto 'brake wear harness' 944 612 107 00 but doesn't seem to be listed. Surely you don;t need to buy the whole harness section??

If I can't get a plug for the steering rack I'll put a short bolt in but would be nicer to have the original part.

Appreciate it is a bit of a 944 trivial pursuit question but would love to know the answer :)

Hi there, I recall the rubber grommet is not a separate part as I think it is actually moulded onto the cable during manufacture before the end connections are made. Well, at least it is on the brake sensor cables...

Once the end connections to the cableform have been made, there is no way of sliding the grommet off the cable, you would have to cut it off, so any replacement would have to have a split in it to fit. You might have to get creative with an alternative and some glue!

Haha, I just figured out why your rack picture confused the heck out of me. It's a RHD car!

The PN for that plug is 477 419 115. It won't come up if you search for it under the 944, but that's it for sure.

I put a bolt in mine...... it's fine thread, but i don't remember the size.

That is what I was beginning to suspect ... but they do slide up and down the cable and appear to have a split in them. They tighten up on the cable when they go into the cable mount/clip ... or at least they would if they were not perished and crumbling in my hand :)

Thanks for the heads up on the part # for the steering plug.

I thought the RHD woulkd confuse a few gurus :) ... Interestingly the power steering rack for right and left-hand drive cars are identical, however the suspension cross-member and the way the power steering rack attaches to the cross-member are different. Left-hand drive cars have two extra mounting adapters that secure the rack to the crossmember (as shown in the Porsche parts picture below) whereas right-hand drive cars don't, the rack simply bolts straight to the cross member and no adapters are needed.

Left-hand drive power steering rack (Red arrows show adapter brackets)

Good 944 trivial pursuit info ...:)

For the brake line- try 811 611 797, or 999 591 975 40 and 999 511 199 40

Thanks for that ... I'll check them out. Under a 944S right now swapping over to Bilstein HD and upgrading to turbo brembo brake set up for a friend. Hopefully back onto my car soon :)
