Removing Cruise Control?

Has anyone out there deleted the cruise control? I spent some time today cleaning my engine compartment after a tune up. I noticed that the cruise control unit was not even hooked up to the control cable. Can I remove the whole unit? looks like I can just unplug it from the wiring harness and unbolt the whole thing. Will there be any problems with just leaving the harness unplugged? I am stripping the car down for use as an autocross car and maybe some track days.

Thanks, Andy

These cars came with cruise control? Not sure what might happen knowing nothing about the year of your car. I can't imagine what harm it would present though.

Even the cars that did not come with cruise control have the wiring present on the firewall by the battery. The connector is just capped off.

Hey mattdavis the car is an 87... and thanks Volhv, I just unplugged the unit and I will probably make a plug out of silicone or RTV if I can't find a suitable cap. Don't see any reason to remove the wiring too, especially if it is present on non CC cars.

I removed the CC unit, CC computer, CC turn signal stalk and cable many years ago, just left the harness unplugged and uncapped.

Where is the CC computer at? Is it on the unit under the hood by the battery?

... or is it the box in the drivers side footwell under the dash on the left by the hood release?
