For all 924, 944 968 owners & buyers

Check out www.sportscarguides.com if you are considering buying any of the above, in fact any Porsche.
Independent model histories, buyers tips, to help you avoid a lemon ( written by a guy who had one!!)

I must be missing something. I went to the website and all you get is a small blurb about each car that really doesn't tell you much of anything. Of course if you want to pay money apparently they will give you more information. Why pay the bucks when the guys on this board will help you out for free? Hmmm, and now when I check your profile I see your homepage is this "SportCarGuide!" Please take your feeble attempts at solicitation elsewhere!

For the partially sighted...

Kurt,

Look in the purple box at the bottom, where you will see ' free sample'.

This site has taken us, a couple of enthusiats with a bit of nouse, a lot of effort to put together, and is proving poular with many people who buy our guides every day. You don't have to look at it or buy another guide as I am offering you something for nothing on the 912. However, no-one has compalined about the quality of what they receive and the charge has prevoiusly been called a ' no brainer' for the quality of what we provide.

The mini guides are to help people who are not sure which model number matches the car they have in mind, obvouisly not you as you are a complete expert and cynic.

I resent the 'feeble' comment given the above, and as soon as more people realise that quality web content will have to be paid for somehow, the web will grow up.

I don't usually respond like this but you have wound me up.

Bet Mark's site works great in the UK.

Don't get all buggered up Mark. Most of the traffic here is inside the US and Canada.

Things will change when we make the UK the 51st state and get every one to drive on the "correct" side of the road.

Kurt I'm curious, why are you reading this board? Are you interested in a front engined Porsche or just like browsing here?

Thanks Hugh

Kurts response caught me at a bad time - my exhaust had just fallen off and I'd got the quote !

Interestingly, many, if not most of our purchasers are in the US, as we do cover US variants, and the buying tips are as valid in the US as they are anywhere. We also get people buying guides from Finland, Holland and even more exotoc places !

I just can't get enough of a Porsche fix on just the 911 board. Look around, you will find me on the 912, 914, Z3, E36 boards, etc. Oh, and I once owned a 1979 924. Do I qualify for admittance?

964man,

I have not objection to direct solicitation provided that it is clearly identified as such.

Your message did not identify yourself as associated with sportscarguide, therefore it is deserving of the contempt so ably expressed by my fellow members.

Well I can't speak for everyone around here however I have seen the moderators clearly state that these are open forms and anyone is encouraged to contribute.

BTW: Hang around here long enough and you may notice some of us exhibits suspicious hidden airhead tendencies...
oh... uh... yeah... my evil twin uses this computer and he may have been posting over at the 914 and 911 boards. But not me! NO WAY! YOU CAN'T PROVE A THING!

I often cruise the other boards. I like the 911 board, but at times it is a little too technical (we get a little more off-topic here, and, hence, have a little more fun), but still entertaining to read. I actually feel a little intimidated on that board, like the 911 drivers will see my post and go, "who does this guy think he is? he only drives a 944..." The 914 and 928 boards are snoozers. I check there for pictures from time to time. The only other ones I really go to are Cayenne and Off-Topic, which both have very funny threads going on right now.

The mini sportscar guides are probably invaluable to a beginning enthusiast, or a sportscar nut that doesn't necessarily know everything about Porsches. Don't be too hurt by some of the responses here, Kurt, these guys are real 944 experts and therefore a little weary of a "general knowledge" type of site like yours. I thought the mini-windows on each seperate model would be a good way for a Porsche ingenue to get to know the marque with little bite-size snippets of information a little at a time.

My only negative criticism: your 944 0-60 times seem a little, uh, optimistic. In other words, I've never seen a claim that a 944NA will do 0-60 in 6 seconds!

Question SPORTSCARGUIDES

Exactly what kind of information could I get from the "sportscarguide" that I cannot get from the plethra of Porsche books (to include buyers guides) found at my local library, the vast knowledge here at Pelican, talking one on one with my mechanic, researching the thousands of websites devoted towards the Porsche automobile to include Carfax and AllData, calling or e-mailing Porsche Cars North America and answering questions by taking the time and looking "under the hood"? I say next time you want to use somebody elses website to push a product, list it in the appropriate place or more importantly, get the permission of the one who owns the website. This is how we "Americans" do business.

Stephen
