Yikes! Where's my heater?

Today was our first cool, crisp Autumn day (cold and wet by some opinions). I cranked up my S2, started to drive into work. Normally, the heater kicks in after a mile or two...very toasty when needed. Today, no warm air at all! I looked at my temp guage and it reads normal...never above 1/3 hot. The fans seem to work, and there was no visible signs of water levels being low. I didn't get any warm air at all. Where should I start?

your lack of heat is most likely a result of a vaccuum hose cracked of off. T
To see, try really getting on the gas. Wind it up pretty good while excellerating. Do this with the temperature setting on hot and the fan speed at a medium setting. When you really get on the revs you should get a brief burst of hot air ( as long as the car is warmed up). Most likely you will get a bit of hot air when you do this. If so you just have a vaccuum leak somewhere.
Check where the small diameter vaccum hose goes into the heater valve. I have a 944S/968 conversion, and my heater valve is over the oil filter. I am not sure if the S2 is the same. I hope this helps.

Thanks Ross, I'll look to see. When I removed the blower unit in front of center of the windshield in the engine compartment, I noticed a tiny little vacuum hose connection to it. Could that be the one you are speaking of? I can see that one slipping off with all the handling.

Quite possibly, check that one if you can.

I'm in the same boat. My heater has never worked, but neither has my AC. The fan works great, it just blows around whatever temperature air is already there.

Since I only drive it in the summer, and take off the top and leave the windows down its not an issue. I was thinking about fixing it, but I have checked the hoses and they are all fine, so if it isn't say a leaky or disconnected hose, where would one turn next? My engine is pretty much disassembled (rebuilding the head) so is there anything I could check now with it being pretty much open underneath there?

I also just had my shop send me a new heater/condensor unit (that big black bulky box thing). I'm thinking of replaces the whole unit but I'm not sure if that is nessessary, and I'm not sure if I need to get under the engine or rip off the dash (or both - like I had to do in my Jeep to replace the heater core there).

Should I rip apart the box and get the core out or would a whole switch be better? Is that nessessary at this point?

Thanks in advance.
