Rear coilover conversion.
Does anybody sell a sleeve over kit for the rear? Hadsanyone tried to custom make one using sleeves for another car and useig the top and bottom mounts as perches?

I presume you mean torsion bar delete. Yes, the kits are out there, but I wouldn't install one unless the car had a cage to strengthen the upper shock mount. There are different opinions on this.
There are also "helper" springs out there which supplement the torsion bars. You could salvage some from an M030 968 (and maybe late 951?), or buy some aftermarket. I haven't seen any online, but that english show where they fix up cars put a helper setup on a 951.

No one is presently making a sleeve over kit for the 944 as so far because there is not a good way to attach the sleeves.
Bilstein makes the coil over rear shocks for the 944, plus there are several companies that make the 2 1/4 dia. coil springs in many different spring rates (Starting at 150 lb. rate)

remember that the torsion bars do the supporting if they are still in there, so any spring you add will either raise the ride height, or fall down loose when the wheel drops, unless you also add a tender spring to hold the helper spring in place during wheel drop

If I did, I would go with really stiff rear springs, and torsion bar delete.

no worries - same problem though - unless you have enough preload to hold it in place, you need to run a tender spring that holds the spring in there - i've done it both ways

I would'nt attempted a sleeve kit for the rears. IF you want coilovers for the rear, check out the billstein cup factory rear coilovers and use the correct springs in conjuntion with tbars or without tbars,
I use 425 lbs springs up front and 150 lbs helper springs in the rear with 30 mm tbars . rear coilovers are the cups I mentioned. They have offset ends so you don't need a shock mount adapter ![]() Last edited by KEV951; 02-02-2011 at 09:46 AM.. |

I run a Koni 30 series coil over setup on my car. Torsion bars deleted. No problems at all. Love the simplicity of the setup. Much easier to change my ride height. I could lower my car in 5 minutes.
People worry too much about the shock mounts not being able to support the car. This is BS. Ask around, there's tons of people running the same setup as me. Front: Koni Coil overs, 425# springs. KLA solid mounts, racers edge perches. Rear: paragon koni 30-series coil over kit, 550# springs I spent around $1100 on my setup Last edited by trivgar; 02-02-2011 at 10:44 AM.. |

Like I said, there are different opinions on this. Thankfully, we are all free to roll the dice if we want to. I mean, what's the worst that could happen?

Sure. You're always taking a chance when you change **** though. I bet you the broken shock mounts due to rear coil over conversion ratio is lower than the blown motor due to upgraded turbo ratio.

the shock mount issue is due to clearance problems - they hold up fine - the adaptors are just there to move the shock away from the banana arm and make sure the shock body or spring don't make contact and bind up, and thereby snap the mount

I was advised to stay away from those products
Lyndsey Racing right now has Intrax coilover kits for early AND late cars (steel or aluminum) - might be worth calling or e-mailing them about it |

It may sounds dumb, but I'm just looking for a cheap way to do it. I'm into drifting, so the stiffer the better. My friend Elliott has had rear coilovers on his black car for years now of strait abuse with no problems.
I'm looking into an a-1 racing sleeve over kit for the 30 series koni shock. For the rear. |
