Safetied and on the road. The adventure begins
So, I was able to get my 944 project on the road and legal here in Canada. After taking it out for a nice hard drive I'm getting ready to work on the vacuum lines and change out the old grounds and primary wires.
My question to you, my fellow 944 brothers and sisters, is it necessary to use all the elbows and tubing that was used originally or can I use generic vac tubing? Also, is there any advantage to using heavier gauge (2 or 0) for ground and primary cables? I can tell you that she runs through the gears beautifully and is everything I thought she would be. It is hard to believe that this car is 31 years old. ![]() |

Depends.
A few sellers offer vac kits you could copy and DIY. An example: VACUUM & FITTINGS at LINDSEY RACING - Your Porsche Performance Parts Center Battery cables- some swear it helps: IceShark is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Rennlist Discussion Forums J_AZ

I have the Lindsey Racing silicone set and it includes metal fittings. The silicone should handle underhood heat better than the original. Been on my 83na for two years no problems.

FWIW, the contents of the LR set can be had cheaper if you get bulk line and nickel plated fittings from McMaster Carr.

Okay I was finally able to change the primary cables and grounds on my baby.
She started up right away. But, the battery light is on. I have checked the voltage atbthe battery and it sits around 12.46. Can someone help me out? The cable from the battery to thee starter is 0 gauge. The following what was there I used 4 gauge from the starter to the alt. The blue wire from the alt to the connector was completely fried I noticed that the previous owner or mechanic had jumped that wire completely instead of fixing it so I did. The grounds are 0gauge as well from battery to chassis and chassis to bellhousing. That was not fun at all to work on. Let me know if any of you see a problem with what I have done. |
