Steering column bush/bearing?

My steering column has quite a bit of play, like up and down, which is annoying on rough roads or corrugations. Is there a replaceable bush on the column near the top, just below the spline, or any adjustment to take this slack out? Any assistance appreciated. I did a search and can't find much on steering, apart from removing the whole thing.

Yup. I think you can get the part from Automotion but it doesn't have a 944 part number. It's for a 914 (IIRC). Sorry can't think of it off the top of my noggin. The part is just a small metal sleeve. It's an easy install, but don't try to smash it in from the steering wheel side. Pull the wheel, take out the switch carrier and tap it in from the back. You'll see what I mean when you get it all apart. There's a nylon bush there that falls apart with age. Easy fix for annoying problem. Also, make sure you've got the large black steering wheel spacer/sleeve installed.

Thanks Simon, I'll pull it apart and if I can't get the part, I'll measure it up and get a mate of mine to turn one out on his lathe or make one myself from some scrap polly or brass. Its what I had in mind, but wasn't quite sure. I have a momo wheel in the baby, but the problem was there before I fitted that. Thanks again.
