Brakes dragging after rebuild / 1979SC

Hello there,

- rebuilt all 4 calipers with new seals
- new master cylinder
- 4 new rubber brake lines
I did not do a bench bleed of the MC, but I vacuum bled and traditional brake pedal bled system.
After driving for a short time the brakes start to drag, when coasting to a stop the car stops abruptly without using brakes. If I pull back on the brake pedal the brakes release.
I don't believe there is any adjustment between the push rod in the booster that pushes on the MC rod.
Any thoughts here ?
Thanks !

I think you have the wrong forum.

I wish I could offer some input but the brake pedal and cylinder is configured in a special way on 911s, and I know nothing about it.

Maybe you got a wrong or defective master cylinder.

I had a problem like this on a Nissan 300ZX. What was happening was this:

As the car was driven the brakes would heat up and the metal and fluid would expand. In response the caliper pistons would retract and push fluid back to the master cylinder and raise the brake pedal. However the pedal would not retract and would hit the upper pedal stop. This made the brakes drag or tighten up as the car got warm.

I loosened up the pedal adjustment rod to give the pedal more travel. It was like I had just rebuilt the engine. The brakes quit dragging and all was well again.

And then I sold it and bought a 944. Ain't I a glutton for punishment, heh!

Just an update.
I pulled the booster. The booster has quite a lot of rust inside from the leaky MC that was replaced last year. I noticed that the booster plunger would stick when I first start pushing on it, then eventually would slide. When I release the plunger it would not retract fully (it would stick again unless I pull back on it). I'm going to order a new booster and let you know how it goes.
Thanks !
